Go To Plan B

Post by Whiskers » Thu May 25, 2017 8:44 pm

The plan today was to fish Lang Lang Beach for gummies. With high tide due at 1.00pm it was to be fishing by mid morning through to mid afternoon.

The Willy Weather wind forecast was a north westerly to about 20 knots. Not the most pleasant wind at Lang Lang but fishable.
The actual wind speed was more like 40 knots with higher gusts. Wind borne spray was being blown over the sea wall. So much for the accuracy of Willy Weather.
Casting was difficult. At times it felt like your cast was going to land 40 yards behind you in the carpark.

Plan A was soon abandoned and a hastily conceived Plan B was put in place. It was time to pack up and head back along the highway to Tooradin. There’s always a spot somewhere there to get out of the wind.

Sawtells Creek provided a spot out of the wind, and provided a multitude of fish. There were plenty of juvenile salmon, a few small trevally and a steady stream of mullet, plus of course some inevitable toadies, but, best of all, some small bream.
I haven’t caught bream at Tooradin for years but it was really encouraging to see them today. They weren’t big, all juveniles, but at least it showed that bream were still in the system.

In the end it was a successful day even if it was just tiddler snatching. Plenty of fun on the tiddler tackle and a real treat to see bream again, plus a dozen or so nice little mullet to go into the bait freezer.
