just wondering how many are still using food grade prawn atm with fisheries asking people not to
I threw out a few kilos I had for gummy bait in the freezer, better safe than sorry. Ended up buying some mantis shrimp from Springvale market. Am yet to get to WP to give them a shot though I have heard mantis is a good bait

Never heard of them
Mantis shrimp are often found in the gummys stomachs in WP, even when pulled from their stomach throw them on a hook and apparently make great bait (so I’m told by westernport regulars) I believe when the gummys move onto the mud flats part of what they are hunting is mantis
Ok cool
Where can you buy them

Glad to hear I’m not the only one. 6 Whiting and a pinky
We fished yesterday morning for whiting around the spit and found it very hard going. In the end we found them for 10 but back at the ramp (it was packed) between us docking and filleting the fish I did not see anything being cleaned except a small gummy.

From everyone we spoke to they found it very hard as well.

Only cocktail baits of pippies and squid worked for us (think it was the pippies that worked)
Everyone at yaringa was saying the same. Maybe that full moon cocked it up I don’t know.. my last two trips have been shocking, trying to work it out
Have found fishing days on a full moon tough the evening on the other hand can be good.

Pacific fresh seafood. I think it might be the only seafood supplier at the market. Should be able to call ahead and make sure they have it in stock if you have to travel far to get some. I picked up a box (I think was 4 or 5kg) for around $70 from memory. Then vacc sealed in smaller portions.
