Well went out with the idea to hit up a gummy spot but it was taken by other fishos so decided to hang around till morning and head out to Corinella to try for somthing.
Managed to hook and land a monster .
Fresh squid head.. list a few suspected sharks earlier before having this fight..
Not everyones cup if tea but good fun!

Way more patient on the rod than I'll ever be. Nice capture and excellent footage of how to handle a ray.

Thanks mate. It does take some time... different type of fishing but with the right gear it can be fun.DougieK wrote:Way more patient on the rod than I'll ever be. Nice capture and excellent footage of how to handle a ray.

My back would have given in way sooner than it took to land it ! I can't believe it missed every pylon on the way in !

I would say it pure skill... but luck was the main factor. That and my willingness to get wet lol.hornet wrote:My back would have given in way sooner than it took to land it ! I can't believe it missed every pylon on the way in !

Re: Western Port Monster
I assume your holding by the tail so you can't be barbed? I'm even more vigilant at than that, 95% of the time ill cut as close as i can to the hook without being anywhere near the tail or barb... I dont know which species of ray/skate have a painful sting and which ones don't, but I don't like to take any chances anyhow.

That is a big fella. Evil looking barb too. How old would something that size be?
