Congrats on a great catch - awesome effort both avoiding tangles on the pier and the release. Greats pics at the end

Did you even have to wait long for the bite? I mean there's plenty of big rays lurking around there. I feel it would be close to a guarantee to get one?

As far as I know... not too hard to make up some sturdy DIY ones that fit most piers.

Although if fishing for big stuff either have drag running loose or make them very very strong... because when big stuff hits they dont play nice as I am sure you know!

Hooked a 100kg+ ray the other day on my 1-3kg rod (foul hooked) it didnt even know I was there haha.

I did make one up to go around a peir rails but could only hold a small rod not a surf rod
