Lake esmond - ballarat

Post by thraze » Tue Oct 22, 2013 11:15 am

I'm in ballarat today and tomorrow, just up the road from lake esmond. Does anyone know how it's fishing atm? I know it was recently stocked, but havnt fished it since last summer. Any particular spot/bait/lure worth trying? Happy with a couple of reddies ;)

Lake esmond - ballarat

I've fished there quite a bit in the past few years.
It's a pretty deep lake. Not too much structure apart from reeds and sometimes big sticks/rubbish.
One side is deep and doesn't have too much weed (jetty side) and the other side is shallower and very weedy.

I have caught trout and reddies on the deep side. Lures have worked better for me.
Caught redfin up to about 30cm (but there's probably bigger ones in there) on blades, yabby lures and grub plastics.
Trout on tassie devils and powerbait.

It's worth a fish, or if you're not keen wendouree has apparently been producing trout up to almost 60cm and reddies up to 42cm.

If you have any more questions, just ask. :)

And yes, the weather is terrible today :(
