Lifes a drag

Post by dezza68 » Sun Feb 19, 2017 6:19 pm

Spent a fun few hours on a mates boat catching smallish pelagics on a variety of lures and light tackle. What I noticed was that as soon as you put a bit of hurt on, without fail the fish put there head down and tried to get to the bottom. If you left the drag lighter they ran away from the boat and not for the bottom. Left me thinking, what's the best way to play a fish, hard drag or soft? Today it seemed soft was the best way.

Im no expert on fishing for pelagic species but talking to people who fish for kings regularly theres two differing approaches put on the hurt and fight them out nice and easy with light drag.

It depends it what depth you are in and what the bottom is like, kings will follow you so you can lead them out of shallow rocky areas to deeper water then put the hurt on. I reckon kingies fight till their last beath
