Tyenna River trout on their spawning run..

Post by meppstas » Wed May 24, 2017 9:24 pm

Here's a few photos of the wild Tyenna River brown trout making their way over the Tyenna weir on the spawning run upstream..

Thanks to Tyenna Dave once again this year for allowing me to use his photos too.. He's one of the great trout fisho's here in Tassie too, both on the fly & lure fishing..

cheers
Adrian

I am sure those photos did not happen in just a few minutes. Adrian do most of the trout make it past the weir? Many thanks for the post - Paul

Yes Paul, they all make it past the weir... it has very good flow when these photos were taken as there had been some good rainfalls in the upper reaches of the Tyenna River a couple of days earlier. It's probably dropped a few inches by now.. I wish we had a weir or two up this way as I would love to get a few pics myself and it would be great to watch as well..

cheers

I remember these from last year - incredible photos and some meaty trout. I presume most of those bigguns are coming out the the River Derwent and chain of lakes north of the Tyenna (Would trout swim downstream to swim upstream on another river?)?

I fished the Tyenna River via fly last time I was in Tassie (Nov 2016). Got smoked by something that knew exactly where to run as soon as it felt the hook, and i was powerless to do anything the leader seemingly snapped like cotton. But did get a nice (but probably small by Tassie standards) well conditioned female brown of about 45cm. As a victorian, i was stoked with that haha.
