Rivers going to be very high for opening of trout season..

Post by meppstas » Mon Jul 31, 2017 8:02 pm

Well with just on four days left before the brown trout season opens on Saturday 5th August it looks like the rivers will be running on the high side and more than likely dirty as well. We've already had just over 40mms of rain here in Sheffield with more on the way on Friday.. Looks like it will be bait fishing at this stage or I may try and find a nice long back water to spin fish..

Checked the river flow plots tonight and the two main rivers I fish are well over the safe level for wading,, as you'll see by the graphs.
Normally I fish them when the flow is 500-400 ML per Day and lower. The Mersey I can get away with it at 600 ML/Day but have to be very selective of the water that I know is safe enough to wade..

I may be lucky to fish a small stream close to home yet, just have to wait and see.. If it's raining I'm going nowhere.. :(

cheers
Adrian

9:03 am here in Sheffield on opening day of the 2017-18 brown trout season.... Dull, wet and miserable morning and it's not going to change for the next few days.. Max temps 9 -10 degrees..
a day I'm not going anywhere, staying warm and dry.. the trout can wait for a few more days yet.. :)

Still not as bad as what I hear Victoria & Sth Aust are expecting today either..
pretty bad for both states from what I heard on the TV this morning.. :o_0:

cheers
Adrian

We need some of that rain in Victoria, dry as a chip here over winter, hopefully the whole state gets a good drop over the spring
