Four wild brown trout & a pulled hamstring....

Post by meppstas » Wed Aug 09, 2017 9:58 pm

** Sorry, just a short report this time...

Took a 45 minute drive today to try a small stream I haven't fished for quite a few years.. Not sure if I'd have any luck in it but I thought what the heck it beats pushing up against the fast water of the bigger rivers. I did have just the one problem, as I was getting down a six foot drop to the river I tore the hamstring in my right leg. But I was now in the river and i wasn't getting out and walking back to the car which was around a kilometer away and decided to fish my way back to it. With the water being around 4 degrees I thought that would help too, by the time I had fished my way back to within a 100 meters of the car it was time to get out as the leg was getting worse. After the walk through the scrub I was back at the car and feeling a little worse for wear.

This is where I damaged the hamstring getting down to the river.

Nice tannin water & cold too..

Doesn't get any better than this...

Deep stretch of river..
The good thing that came out of it all was that I caught and released four browns taken on a small Mepps Gold #00 Aglia Mouche Noire (3 fish) &#00 Gold Aglia (1 fish) so it wasn't all bad after all.. No hopefully I can get rid of the hamstring injury ASAP.. I don't think I helped it by pushing on fishing for close on three hours either and climbing over fallen trees etc.. Actually I'm all iced up at the moment trying to settle it down.. Didn't stop me taking photos anyway, plus after seeing how good the river looked I just couldn't go straight back to the car..
Was told tonight it may take 4-6 weeks before it's okay.... :o_0:

Thanks guys,
That's my problem once I get to a river smile0784, I don't know when enough is enough sometimes then pay for it later..

Still think I've got the body of a 25years old instead on one that's nearly 72.. :-D :-D

Still, one's only as old as they feel on the day aren't they, I'm lucky as I still feel like 25..

cheers

  you got that right too... Don't think they would have been too impressed had I set it off..

I was more worried about coming back and finding my car like several others in the area... ticks me off when I see this sort of thing in such beautiful surrounds, took photos and sent them to the local council & a friend who does the ABC morning show here in Tassie.. This was once a beautiful grassed area and now it's just one big bog hole..

cheers

great report & hopefully you're back running as fast as the rivers soon Adrian! :a_goodjob:

I think you under sell yourself, the colours in the water are awesome! Surely it does get better when theres a 540gm fish on the end of your rod

Have you set an ambitious target this year?

Doesn't get any better than this...

Thanks ratbag, yes 500 for starters and if i reach that with around 5 weeks left of the season then I'll go flat out to crack the 600 again.. :-D

I was going to head back to this river again today and fish another area of it, but no being a little lame in the right leg it will have to wait for a bit longer.. I'm all iced up again and I feel it may not be torn just strained..

cheers
