Nice to see a hefty fine handed out for the poaching of a giant freshwater crayfish here in Tassie...

Maximum fine is $10k per freshwater crayfish I feel they should have gone the whole hog on him.. he got off pretty light really given the details of what they had on him.. It was good that they caught him and he did receive a hefty fine, but still not enough in my books.. Should have been given some gaol time as well as the fine for the following offences..
** Paul Charles Bakes was convicted of
** six counts of take protected fish;
** nine counts of possess freshwater crayfish; and
** One count of take trout without a licence.

Good on the Magistrate to take such a tough stance.
Bloody wish such hefty fines (or higher still) are handed out here in Vic - you will certainly hear less of these offences being committed - IRON CLAD GUARANTEED of that!!
