looking for info on fishing Launceston/Devonport area
hi all,
The missus is working in Tas on the 1st (Launceston) and 2nd (devonport) of Oct so we are making a weekend trip of it. Friday through Sunday we'll be stuffing our faces at various points between Hobart and Launceston. Will have all day of the 1st to myself and the morning of the 2nd so i'm thinking about taking a rod along to keep myself busy.
If anyone can word me up on what species i can expect in the area (salt or fresh) and roughly where to access water i'd appreciate it. Will be traveling light and chucking lures as we're flying in and renting a car when we arrive. Not really after any secret spots unless you're comfortable sharing them. Happy to put in effort on foot to reach spots if that's required.
I'm guessing my main target will be trout?
Cheers
Niroj

Pm meppstas, he is very close to the area you're talking about.
Been a while since I looked but the general consensus was that this area of tassie had rather poor bream fishing. East coast and around hobart however is on another level.
Are you basing this on specific knowledge of the area or the general idea that tassie has lots of big bream?hornet wrote:Not just Trout down there the bream are prolific also.

Had me excited for a sec but that's east coast and hobart based fishing. There are bream in the other rivers but the population base doesn't seem to be there.hornet wrote:Based on google search...mazman wrote:Pm meppstas, he is very close to the area you're talking about. Are you basing this on specific knowledge of the area or the general idea that tassie has lots of big bream?hornet wrote:Not just Trout down there the bream are prolific also.

Re: looking for info on fishing Launceston/Devonport area
Niroj, hopefully by the 1st October the rivers will be at a wading height, at the moment they're all running high, fast and very cold... the upper reaches of the Rubicon River (Frankford Highway are) is well know for large bream up to 6 lbs from time to time.. as for trout Mersey, Meander Rivers here in the North are good as is the North & South Esk Rivers in the Launceston area.. call into a Information Centre or a tackle store & grab some angler access brochures as well as Trout Fish Tasmania booklet (all free) plus you must buy a trout license as well.. PM me before you head off down here and perhaps we can catch up for a spin session in the Mersey or Meander Rivers.. I'm at Sheffield 30kms South of Devonport...
cheers
