Last hoorah on the Snapper
Last hoorah on the Snapper
Well with the 3 year Snapper ban here in SA starting Thursday midnight. A last hoorah was in order, with my Nephew, Bro in-law and yours truly, Carman.
A quick trip to my mate Peterrrr, the owner of "Port Adelaide Bait & Tackle" an independent. I always try and shop at the little guy. And seeing as I am tall and Peterrrr is taller than me, he is a BIG little guy. Oh and the trip to get bait was quick, the trip was, the 45 minute chat, well that wasn't quick, it was, 45 mins
Aaah, on the spot
We noticed a fire raging in the Adelaide Hills, hope all are safe and well there. An earlier start to the summer fires, very unfortunate.
Bait collecting, the first of many. Slimmie Cutlets are the choice cut for today's efforts
First on deck was my nephew, with a mid 20's
They were consistently coming in, this model in the mid to low 30's, me forgets, but they were all in that range. Clones
And some more bait theives, we are using all buckets, so they are intentionally placed stowaways. And yep, For my Nephew's Grandma for "Blue Crab Linguine" , which yep, she still makes with Spaghetti.
Yep, can't avoid the Jacksons, luckily we were 4 short of a complete band.
And to add to the 4 squid we caught (sorry no photos) a nice Flattie , , , , seafood Basket here we come.
And a casualty, my Widdle Bent Pinkie , , , , them Crab Claws are strong
All in all, 9 Snapper, all but one legal , , , , in Victoria, but not one made the SA benchmark.
Was a nice day and evening and I am already planning to , , , , well go and target Blue Swimmer Crabs , , , , the way I see it, you bite me then I shall , , , , catch you, boil you, crack you open then , , , , bite you
Cheers, Bugatti

So what does Bug fish for now?
Whiting? Surely that’s a pretty good consolation prize for the snapper..... and they taste better.

I actually had a tear of joy in my eye , , , , ok, I'm not ashamed of it, I cried like a weewaa baby seeing your post.
Because now you are going to make me look bad on that welding thread. I have to say, that pic you sent me of your weld, is the best weld I have ever ever seen, that curl tail of slag had me in envy
And as far as having a drink with you, most definitely on my "to do" list.
Cheers, Bugs
Re: Last hoorah on the Snapper
Thanks Yepi.
And there are heaps of fish that taste better than Snapper.
Gar, Squid, Whiting and Blue Crabs are on the main hit list. But don't expect too many whiting reports, I'm as good a Whiting Fisherman as I am an Astronaut
Thanks Seby
The Jacks is patiently waiting at home, and there's a glass for you too, you'll just need to , , , , bring your own Jacks
Oh, can you pick up some ice on the way
(I prefer not to drink on Boats, just my preference)
Thanks smile
Yep, a few is plenty. My Nephew was actually glad even with the small ones. They just have that allure and I think he wanted to get a few under his belt to last the 3 year ban
Thanks LX
I'm very much like you (just that I'm the uglier version). Family & friends and sharing with them is where the joy is in fishing. But seeing ya mate get squirted by a Squid is a very close second
Cheers, guys. Bugs

Re: Last hoorah on the Snapper
I was thinking where’s the snapper racks or is that just a Vicco thing.

Re: Last hoorah on the Snapper
Nah, not just a Vicco thing, there are heaps in SA, but they do seem more popular in Victoria. I have this "seen too many rods bounce off snapper racks and go ploooomp into the drink" thing
You do lose a few fish in rocket launchers but what is better about rocket launchers is you lose less rods
Keeping in mind, I fish with kids and/or rookies , and Snapper Racks are a bit more particular on how they are used.
