The Makay Recreational Anglers Alliance reported the following:
A highly invasive pest fish species; Peacock Bass have been reported being caught at Dumbleton Weir in the Pioneer River in Mackay.
Yet another exotic species let loose in Australia! While they are reportedly a great sports fish one really has to wonder how such fish can get into our rivers.

Probably either some aquarist releasing pet fish that got too big to keep in a tank, or some local ******* stocking waterways with a 'better' angling species

... also, not a Bass, but a type of Cichlid (like Tilapia).

Not that easy to do. Many aquarium fish such as the peacock bass (cichlid) have been banned imports for many years. If true I think it would have been a planned illegal stocking for angling...by anglers.

Presuming they are there Peacock Bass have a reputation of killing off other species in places where they have been introduced. At least they do not survive in cooler water.

Had a trifecta in Hawaii once - caught a peacock, smallmouth and largemouth bass in one day. The Peacock wins in the pulling power category
