You CAN teach an old dog new tricks

Post by lukesfishinmission » Tue Jun 18, 2013 5:53 pm

Well we all know how the saying really goes whereby you apparently can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but this article is a testament to that being a complete and utter load of nonsense. The old dog I am referring to on this particular occasion is my old man – Joe Galea. The old man is an old school bait fisherman who had never used a lure, let–a-lone a soft plastic, in his entire life. Not that there is anything wrong with that offcourse as every man and woman in this world are entitled to make up their own minds on fishing preferences and at the end of the day it is largely a matter of each to their own and cannot be judged one way or another.

I wouldn’t say that the old man was ever anti-artificial or unwilling to learn, I guess he just grew up in an era whereby his father taught him to fish with worms or prawns and lures of any description were far less popular and not as readily available as they are these days. In the general scheme of things, lures are relatively new compared to more conventional methods and soft plastics have only been really popular for the last 10 – 12 years. But geez, aren’t they the craze these days and for good reason.
