Barra-Sundy!!

Post by lukesfishinmission » Wed Sep 18, 2013 6:47 pm

Hey guys,

Had an epic little session with a couple of mates on Sunday. We would have caught at least 25 big bustling black bream, a couple of flathead, a few tarpon, cod, trevally and 7 beautiful barra (lost another 2). Although 6 out of the 7 barra were undersize, they were still a great deal of fun on the 6lb braid, 10lb leader and light spin combo. Weedlessly rigged atomic prongs doing most of the damage. All fish (except 1 legal barra - 62cm) were released.

Hey Luke great post well done. Gotta question for you I noticed you had a ball sinker on the end of your hook and that you weren't using a jig head as such. Was that for extra distance in the cast or does that give a different action to the SP?

Raulfc - It is for none of those reasons mate. it is for hooking weedless/snagless so you can throw your lure into harsh structure and not foul up but when a fish crunches it, you can a jaw hook up nearly each time. This has allowed me to use super light leaders and get more bites as a result. I have written about it a bunch of time on the blog mate. They i run a ball sinker in my loop knot for casting and sinkign weight yes

Hey Luke what is that fish in the last picture mate? It looks very similar to the Macquarie perch we get down south
