Sounder

Post by Frankb » Tue Nov 10, 2015 8:44 pm

Hi guys
Went out for snapper on Monday and sounded quite a few while moving around. I was in 16 m deep and the fish symbols were showing at 5 to 7 metres. Does this mean the fish are moving and is it worthwhile anchoring and dropping a line.
Any opinions would be helpfull for my next outing.

They need to be on the bottom. Anywhere else means they agree moving or not feeding actively.

If they're up high, rip plastics through them midwater, slow drift completely unweighted baits midwater, troll diving hardbodies in that 5-7m depth. They are predators not just scavenger s

Fish symbols?
Menu>setup>fish id>off.

Grab a book (there is a good one floating around whose name escapes me right now), watch YouTube videos, study pictures and learn how to read the sonar. They are surprisingly easy to read once you know what to look for.

Rick huckstepp's guide to depth sounder is very good he also does a video. The problem with fish symbols it may or not be a fish when displayed but when you see an arch its a fish. There is a lot in interpreting your sounder it takes practice and constant use not just left in auto with fish symbols.
