Well with clear skies, 16 degrees and a rising barometer, i thought it would be a good day to go and chase some winter reddies for my mate and forum member Jason Tanti's fishing monthly magazine article. the barometer was sitting around 1030 and steadily rising. we hit the water and started to flick plastics around the edges hoping for a reddie. i started off with a 2.5" ZMan grub in motor oil whilst Jason used an Ecogear grass minnow in eel pattern. after flicking lures around the edge of the lake for about an hour we decided to head out into the middle and see if they where schooling up deep. after about half an hour of flicking plastics, Jason finally hooks up! nothing big but a fish!

Nice little reddie.

As Jason was lecturing me on how to take better photos on his $1000+ camera, i decided to drop his lure down over the side and just jig it whilst he was talking, and funnily enough and much to Jason's frustration, i was on!

I then gave Jason back his rod and he continued casting but i decided to just drop my lure down over the side and jig it up and next cast i was on!

I caught another 2 around the same size which we didn't bother getting photos of, and on the last cast of the day, Jason got his 2nd!

excuse the photo quality, this one was on iPhone.
After that we decided to quit while we where ahead and pull the pin. none of the fish caught where magazine worthy, but 6 reddies in the middle of winter isn't too bad of an effort i'd say.

one interesting thing was... i checked the barometric data when i got home and as soon as we had started fishing, the barometer started dropping, but between 4:30 and 5:00 (when we caught all the fish) the barometer had started to rise again, showing just how much of an effect the barometer has on fish.

Cheers Sam
