Thats my point Bonanza, big deal so they did not get away whith their catch limits, they will cop a fine and end of story, its realy not a big deal.Ice useres and pushers get less of a punishment.Hundreds of people break fishing rules or other things every day, they just all dont get caught. It may not suit most of the forum members here, but here in Australia the punishment never suits the crime. My father not long ago got a hefty fine because the pinky he caught was not able to be saved and it was 3mm under size.So not he does not deserve the death penalty,or go to jail for any length of time.

I partially agree and partially disagree. I agree the punishment does not fit the crime however I dont think I am on the same side of the fence to you. I am going to keep the discussion relative to fishing only, and not bring drugs into the conversation as its really not a relative concern. What is a concern is keeping fish supplies healthy for not only next year but for generations to come. Hefty penalties need to be applied to anyone BLATANTLY ignoring the rules. I feel for you dad slightly but knowing the rules, its not worth the risk. I had an undersized one two days ago where I could not get the hook out so I cut the line.......I knew if I went any further I will kill the fish so I cut the line, threw him back in for another day. The hook will rust and disintegrate so its probably the right thing to do.

The rules are there for a reason. I personally do not break the rules as I respect the fundamental values of why the laws are in place. It may be harsh.....but I really do not have any symphony for anyone breaking the rules as they are simple to follow.

In america people are killed for piddling offences. There is a time lag between when people are caught breaking the law, and their court date so most people forget about it.

Sometimes the fines seem to be unfair, either too high for being caught with one undesized fish and too low for people who exceed their bag limits by excessive amounts.

I suggest that if you really want to change the penalties, to start lobbying your local politician.
