Snobs Creek hatchery turns 70 – free public event
Date: Sunday 2 July, 2017
Time: 10am – 2pm
Place: Snobs Creek hatchery, 455 Goulburn Valley Highway, Eildon
This year, the Snobs Creek fish hatchery turns 70 years old.
To celebrate, Fisheries Victoria (becoming the Victorian Fisheries Authority on 1 July) is hosting a free public event at Snobs Creek this Sunday.
The event is a chance for anglers and the community to tour the site, which is not normally open to the public, and learn all about the hatchery’s history and how fish production has changed over the decades.
See how brown trout, rainbow trout and Chinook salmon are grown, and how more recently the hatchery has been producing huge numbers of Murray cod fingerlings to improve inland fishing opportunities.
Endangered species recovery is also supported at Snobs Creek via the growing of trout cod and Macquarie perch fingerlings each year.
On the day, hatchery staff will be onsite to answer questions, snacks will be provided and there will be activities to entertain the kids including a jumping castle, balloonist and face painting activities.

Re: Snobs Creek hatchery turns 70 – free public event
I'm planning on attending as well, I might spend an hour or two at the pondage afterwards.
Fisheries entry is:
"A small stream with a steep gradient, flowing from forested hills, then into the Goulburn River about 3 km downstream of the Eildon Pondage. Good forest riparian vegetation upstream. Substrate is fine silt, sand and gravel upstream of the waterfall (Snobs Creek Falls) and boulders and gravel downstream. Accessible from a parallel road. Contains small brown trout upstream and larger brown trout near the Goulburn River, also mountain galaxias. A small section of the creek running through the Snobs Creek Hatchery is closed to fishing."

For those members attending it would be appreciated if you could use the opportunity to push for a much higher level of production of Macquarie Perch fingerlings. Many thanks in advance.

Re: Snobs Creek hatchery turns 70 – free public event
There will likely be lots of small trout around as with school holidays next week Fisheries have probably released a heap of littlies.Sinsemilla wrote:Cheers for that info. I was thinking the same thing, maybe ill see you at the pondage
I haven't heard of any broodstock releases though, I might ask at Snobs Creek.
I'll be driving the new Forester as per "show us your purchases"
Cheers,
Neil
