Thursday, 9 May 2019 KICK-STARTING THE UPGRADE ON VICTORIA’S WORST BOAT RAMP

The Andrews Labor Government is working with Warrnambool City Council to upgrade Warrnambool Harbour, giving recreational fishers and boaters in South West Victoria the facilities they deserve. Minister for Fishing and Boating Jaala Pulford today announced $420,000 in funding to start planning and design work to upgrade the boat launching facility at Warrnambool’s Lady Bay.
The funding will be used by Warrnambool City Council to prepare the business case, detailed design, planning and approvals for an upgraded Warrnambool boat ramp.
The Labor Government has worked closely with the Warrnambool City Council and has already provided funding through the Boating Safety and Facilities Program for a new navigational aid and light on the end of the Warrnambool Harbour breakwater.
In March the Warrnambool boat ramp was named as Victoria’s worst in an RACV boat ramp survey and today’s funding will play a key role in assisting with the development of a much-needed upgrade. It comes as the Victorian Government has committed to establishing the Better Boating Fund, which will use funds from boat registration and marine licences for boating facility upgrades and safety initiatives. Quotes attributable to the Minister for Fishing and Boating Jaala Pulford
“We’re working with Warrnambool Council to get the ball rolling on the planning and approvals needed to start the upgrade of Warrnambool’s Lady Bay boat launching facility.”
“Warrnambool is one of the gateways to wonderful fishing and boating in South West Victoria. Investing in safer boating facilities is a win for all water users and local businesses that stand to benefit from increased visitation.”

Although I have no idea about the background story with this ramp, I would tend to agree with you. Many of the 'fisheries' media releases appearing here seem to be coming from the minister's office, rather than from fisheries themselves. You can tell by the contact details.

On another note, as soon as I noticed that the local council is involved, I wondered how many thousands of dollars will be wasted on consultants fees preparing a business plan?

Something at Werribee South to keep the weed away at least.

I like Newport, it doesnt get very busy most of the time and i can easily access the east or west sides of the northern PPB area. Unless i am planning to head towards the wedge spit or something then i tend to launch from Newport. The worst thing is Leaks/Sayers Road traffic getting there in the morning!

I am more interested in hearing news about boat ramp fee's.
The only thing better than serenity is a two stroke at full throttle!

Doubtful as the state government makes announcements every week.

My local seat has become marginal for the first time in decades. Looks like the libs might loose and they have promised funding for over 600 mil in the local area. There was almost a daily announcement with funding for a new project.

Interestingly they have only made about 4 billion total election promises which shows how keen they are on keeping this seat.
