check out this mulloway

Post by Nude up » Tue Dec 15, 2015 9:24 am

I am only posting this out of interest and as a sample of how widespread the mulloway are in westernport. I have a mate who is a member of the rhyll angling club sunday was their club day two blokes rolled up in a 4.5 mt tinny and asked if they could weigh a fish they had caught no problems they brought a big mulloway it tipped the scales at 20.7 kg.
Chatting to the blokes it was caught just near the corals during the day they had no idea what it was till it surfaced they thought it was a ray due to its sudden changes of direction.

Would have been hectic on a tinny. I've been thinking of checking out the Mosquito Channel this week to see if I can get one on the yak.

Is mulloway a good eating fish? Never tried it before.

Larger Mulloway make good eating, smaller ones not so good.

Yeah, I think the 'butterfish' you see in South Australian fish and chip shops is mulloway and it tastes great. I was a bit annoyed to discover that 'butterfish' in Victorian fish and chips shops is dusky morwong or some ****.
