Red Point 26/3

Post by 4liters » Sat Mar 26, 2016 11:33 pm

Went to Red Point this morning, CarlG was leaving with a couple of squid as we arrived but we couldn't replicate his results unfortunately. Once we were sick of not catching squid we put some baits in and were pretty quickly swarmed with small flathead. I kept one 30cm one and put another in the bait box. Something toothy took a couple of bites out of it's head a little later but didn't hook up.

Just on high tide we went back to the little beach and tried there, my mate got a double hookup of wrasse and I got a mid 30s whiting. After a while I went back to the rocks and left my mate pulling in wrasse. Towards evening I got a double hook up with a 30cm pinky and a flathead, and a little later I got a 40cm whiting. My mate got his first non-rubbish fish of the day with a 31cm pinky. After that it went quiet so we pulled the pin at about 8.30 as it was raining and the fish had moved on.

Final tally was 2 whiting, 2 pinkies and a flathead. Not a bad session landbased, nothing spectacular but better than donuts.

My mate took the photos so I'll upload them as soon as he sends them to me.

Red point seems like a serious landbased fish producer

Like all spots mate it can be really good but can be bad as well. The last time I went my friend and I only got a whole heap of unwanted species including banjos, port jacksons and swell sharks!

But then on the other hand we have had great nights where we have caught big pinkies, gummies, big squids and nice whitings man. Big salmons and some nice trevally as well.
