Re: Back from Angola
Sorry about the wait guys.. happy wife happy life
Thursday morning arrives and same routine. We head north and spin with a few smaller fish coming out by 11am. I catch a rock cod on a spoon. They get a fair bit bigger than this
The guide Shawn takes us to ancient canyons a few kilometres inland from the lodge.
This whole area has these canyons further inland I'll let the photos explain.
We found ancient shark teeth and shell fossils there.
We head back to camp and start packing. We are leaving for the Kunene at 5am tomorrow. The Kunene is a wild area about 230km south west of where we have been staying. It will take us 4 1/2hrs drive to get there. The area is close to the border of Angola's southern neighbour, Namibia. The countries are separated by a river known as the Kunene. We pack smaller tents, our sleeping gear, supplies, a small bag of clothing each, and tons of fishing gear. Bait packed is frozen octopus.. lots of it!
Yes the target is kob.. mulloway! The Kunene is known for catches up to 100 of kob per day, and Shawn's PB is over 70kg!
5am rolls round, quick coffee and we're off. An hour or so later we arrive in the town Namibe. Refuel and pump tyres. We set off and go through Tombua and finally reach the Iona National Park. Pay for our permits of entry at the guard post and stretch legs.
