November Vic Kings!
With the water temps up to 16c, it was time to head out for the first exploration offshore for the season at my local port.
Being micro jig enthusiasts we took only the jig rods and no bait, fully committed.
We launched at 4.45am, and were on the first reef just after first light. The plan was to find some pinkies first. I had never specifically chased pinkies offshore before, but it didn't seem to matter after we got onto em right off the bat! Pinkies 1-2kg one after another! What a way to start the day! After a bit of fun, we decided it was time to head out wider to the deeper reefs. We scoped out 2 reefs that were very quiet, before we finally came to my favourite reef, which had some minor activity.
We switched to the 60gm knife jigs which I find to be the gun kingie jigs, and began our drift.
Not long in to our drift, I glanced at the sounder to see the wonderful sight below: Game on!
We pulled in kingie after kingie, ranging from 40cm rats up to the largest being a 78cm model. To be hauling in quality kings in November in Victoria is pretty special I think, and to top it off the weather glassed out and the sun began to shine, creating the perfect day on the water!
Of course the only damper on the day was the one that got away. A big screaming run that ended in the ping of a broken leader. Definitely a big kingie but we didn't see it so you can never be sure on the size.
Some photos below from the day: Would have been over 100 boats out today, but I think we were the sole boat to head offshore. Sometimes you have to make the reports instead of chasing em!

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
