Why couldn't we have such a catastrophic thing like this happen in Port Phillip Bay .. Vic fishos just can't catch a break !

Very interesting read, thanks Bilby. I lean towards thinking ‘disaster’ might be a bit of an overstatement in this case but obviously it will have some effect.
I do love damage control corporate speak though ‘Early indications suggest that equipment design is not the lead cause of equipment failure’.

I tend to agree that "disaster" is an over statement of the facts. Kingfish occur naturally in the area - if there isn't sufficient food for them, they will move on mass elsewhere. Also, the authorities seem to assume that kingfish themselves have no predators, but presumably this will also attract sharks (and possibly dolphins) to the area for a free meal. Not to mention anglers!
