Buying worms for bait in the Heidelberg area

Post by Mike_M » Wed Mar 18, 2015 3:50 pm

Hi all,

does anyone know of a place around the Heidelberg area to buy some worms (preferably scrub, but ordinary earthworms will do)? The soil at my place is set like concrete, so I've had no luck digging for them and since the chooks turn up their nose at the tiger worms in the compost I imagine the fish will do likewise.

thanks in advance, Mike

You'll catch fish with tiger worms.
Aussie Angler in Greensy would be the closest one I can think of.

Thanks guys, Aussie Angler it is. And if I go fishing before I go there, I'll stop by the compost bin for the tiger worms.

Not sure at this stage - i might try Sweeney's Lane again - drew donuts there with the girls a few weekends ago, but might give it another shot. Or, Westerfolds Park, or a it upstream from Odyssey House. Or the river near Banyule Flats and up to the mouth of the Plenty River - I've seen some huge carp feeding along there near dusk, but they've shown no interest in my lures or my corn.

Basically, the girls want to go fishing and I want to oblige them, but it would be good to catch something occasionally. We've come up with zip from the last 5 outings so far.

Just up from sweeneys lane is Reynolds road it's a nice spot to fish! I fished western olds yesterday also got donuts but had a few taps on worms n unweighted corn. If they wanna land fish you'd have a better chance at saltwater (not that I prefer it, but the girls will be happy if they catch I fuess)

Laughing waters also good but b wary of snakes along this part of the Yarra.

Small circle hooks with worms or yabbie tails an hour or 2 each side of sunset should see you at least get your girls onto a couple of maccas along that stretch.

Or ask the guys at Aussie Angler for some suggestions, they know the river pretty well and will be happy to help out.
