Yeah - work the sabiki for mullet/bait. Lip hook it and chuck it out on the other rod as a livie.

Or ... Fish lures - can't do sabiki and lures unless you're super talented haha

Some big bream under ferguson pier in willie at times ;)

Are you allowed to use really small soft plastics on a sabiki or is that considered a bait?

I've caught aggressive fish like yakkas, slimeys and trevally by jigging the bare hooks but mullet much prefer bait.

I've caught heaps of mullet using a sabiki off a beach by casting and retrieving over the burley trail.

I've never tried them land based but out of the boat I almost always have one out collecting bait etc. in ppb you will also pick up tons of small flatties if they are around you just need to sort through them to find the keepers. Had a string of 5 pinkies one time, that was a disappointment when it came up and I saw what it was haha

I tested the small Sabiki on the tiny baitfish around Altona pier, those guys avoided it like the plague... so clearly the little ones have zero interest and prolly feed on plankton. :D

I'll test it again targeting bigger baitfish somewhere else next time.

Do the guys who regularly use sabiki rigs have a preferred brand and/or colour? I've seen them range from kmart ones that just have a tiny bit of iridescent cellophane over the hook to the ones with a large tuft of brightly coloured hair but haven't used them enough to get an idea of which are the most consistent.
