Snapper Bait - Pilchards
Hi Guys - No doubt we have all been out trying to land the 10kg snapper over the last few months.
I was wondering, as the season comes to an end... what kind (brand) and size of pilchards has everybody found to be working for them?
I have an Anaconda down the road from me so it's a convenient place for bait. They have two choices for pilchards, Gotcha and Two Fold Bay. Just by looking at the two the TFB pilchards appear to be a lot fresher, with more colour and less deterioration. These have been my go to bait and we have had some pretty good sessions out on them.
The pilchards are a decent size, averaging around the 15- 17cm mark.

yep I use them as well they are a lot cleaner a lot less ice in the bag as in what happens when they have thawed and been refrozen

Re: Snapper Bait - Pilchards
Yeah that was the first thing I noticed - Gotcha had a lot of "juice" that had obviously seeped from the fish when defrosted, then refrozen. The TFB ones didn't seem to have that....Tackleberry wrote:yep I use them as well they are a lot cleaner a lot less ice in the bag as in what happens when they have thawed and been refrozen
Next season I might look into buying some in bulk... any ideas where?

Any idea where that boat is? I'd take 10kg at least!

Vancouver baits in williamstown, locally caught off willy and snap frozen on site, will not get fresher bait unless you catch them yourself.

You can buy 10kg boxes of PPB IQF from rig master tackle in Narre Warren. They seemed the goods a few seasons back when I puchaaed a box but that wasn't my best season on the snapper, whether the pilchards were to blame or not I don't know.
