Where to buy cured eel?

Post by Chad » Wed Jan 18, 2017 9:10 am

Hi,

I'm planning a gummy session soon, and i'm trying to track down some cured ell for bait. I haven't used it in the past, but want to give it a go.

The only problem is i can't seem to buy it any where. Where can i buy cured eel? I live in the western suburbs of Melbourne, but am going fishing down near Queenscliff.

Any one know where i can buy some?

Thanks!!!

I'm pretty sure I've just seen it in complete anglers bait freezer. I'm not a westy so I'm talking about Dandenong/Ringwood but give CA a call if there is a store near you and ask.

Pretty sure you cure eel with salt (dries them out).....the frozen stuff mentioned above isn't cured, it frozen fresh and works a treat

So what's the difference between going down to the creek and catching eels yourself, and using cured eel? Is it s big difference or do that have to be cured?

Fresh is best! Sometimes your cure the bait so the flesh is firmer (like jerky) and it stays on the hook better, but eel is tough enough without needing to dry it out.
