mixed baits on one hook - thought?

Post by ChrisD » Fri Feb 01, 2013 7:01 am

What is the general feeling on mixing baits on one hook?
For example I often put worms and corn on one hook, or worms and trout nuggets. I think it just increases the chances that multiple fish species will be attracted to the bait. While a friend of mine swears it does more harm then good.
Thought I would throw the question out to the wide experise of the group

i went on a fishing charter in western port targeting KGW and we use a strip of squid just as a attractant and mussel as the primary bait, seem to work well.

Squid and mussel cocktail is the only bait I use for kgw, and helps the mussel stay on when casting too.

i have used a squid / pilchard cocktail for snapper, whether it works better I'm not sure, was more to hold the pillie on the hook!

My brother got a nice cod on a worm/shrimp cocktail the other day. A lot of fisho's use mixed baits. Anything is worth a try.

Yeah I have done the same a pillie stuffed in one of those Californian squid tubes.
Caught a squid off merricks beach like that on a 7/0 circle. Squid didnt get hooked let go of the bait about a metre out so ran in and grabbed it.
