Port Arlington holiday coming up

Post by Boydwilliam » Mon Nov 02, 2015 10:53 am

Hello fellow fishermen,
Next week im taking the family down to Port Arlington for a few nights for a holiday.
I was hoping someone could give me some info on how and where to fish this area. I have google mapped a bit and found a pier near where we are staying so ill definitely give that a go.
Any info would be appreciated, and ill take the camera and post some pics when we are back
Cheers

The pier is good for squidding at night so give it a go. I've also caught pinkies, flatties and even a port jackson shark over there. Good luck and enjoy your holiday :)

They have installed an artificial reef about 70mt out from the rockwall signs show where it is. There is also st lenoards pier not far away. If you have a boat let me know plenty of options there this time of the year

If you fish st Leonard's pier, ting squid the middle of pier.either side if yellow pole.
N chance at a red or gummy off the end.
To many boats kayak, helicopter , catch a fish, catch a fish

Just before you drive into town, coming from Geelong, there is small auto and marine shop that sells bait and tackle. it has most things you will need to fish the pier. It's next door to the Blue Mussel shop.

Along the break water is good for salmon/flathead and snapper if you're lucky. Just cast as far as you can - you'll want to bring a surf rod if you have one. Mid way along the pier I have caught king George whiting casting into the sand holes and garfish with berely and a float. Best bait for both for me has been bass yabby. If you've got the time, head to the Barwon River and pump up some bass yabbies. Squid are there, but usually small, so use small 2.5 jigs. Good luck

Fished the port arlington pier for donuts yesterday. Might head to st leonards tonight and flick some squid jigs around and fish with some baits. Being a fresh water fisherman this is all new to me but its better than working!
