Need help catching baitfish ;s

Post by 5ubzero » Mon Jun 06, 2016 10:39 pm

Hey guys,
Had a short break from fishing lately, but with the winter months coming in and the cold sizzling our bodys :( , it couldn't be a better time to target some mulloways and gummys. I have run into a few troubles catching some mullet. i cant seem to get any livies or fresh bait at all! i have searched the forums and many locations in Melbourne and cant seem to get any. I seen them at the warmies a few times(only when i forgot my small rod at home) returning to find none in sight even with burley?
I am finding it more difficult to get a mullet, than catch a mulloway. Im heading out tonight, and would appreciate if anybody had any locations or tips in catching these small little devils  . thanks!

I have caught plenty from that small pontoon under the Westgate. Both sides left and right. I usually just burley up and heaps appear. Haven't been there for awhile though. But when I used to go, I would get them most times.

I haven't fished it recently but in the past I've usually done well for bait fish in the lagoon at Blind Bight. (Just behind the car park at the Blind Bight ramp).
Plenty of mullet in there and just occasionally a bigger surprise or two.

Yeah goonie, theres heappppps in there at times.
Rising tide at the boat ramp down in venus bay, a few handfuls of burley and you're pretty likely to get as many as you want (used to get 20-30 per trip as a kid, all catch and release)

Cool. Might be a bit far from the river for my purposes but I guess it would be a similar situation at tarwin lower.
