I have seen one in the top end of Westernport to on some rocks on french island
so they can be found in both bays

Blue ringed Octopus are quite common.
I also caught one last year on a squid jig at Newhaven Pier, Phillip Island.
Could have easily mistaken it for a piece of weed so extra care should be taken!

Yeah I've caught a couple over the years also ... A mate of mine had one curled up in a mud ball on his anchor and luckily it stayed in the anchor well and not decided to take a walk around his boat !
He who has the most fishing rods WINS !

Blue rings are verycommon. Blairgoerie, port sea rye Mordi, mornington and flinders piers are all common dives sites. We see them Often as divers. I teach my students to look but def don't touch. Octopus are very common in old bottles. If you take a bottle from the bottom all ways check for any sort of occy. There a fare chance one will be in there.

The beautiful but deadly creature returned to the water unharmed. It unhooked itself and walked back to the drink unaided....i think it was cool about the photo ops. It did not even crawl back to land to get even on me. Lol

I caught one in wpb just of Elizabeth island it was wrapped around my bait as I swung the bait onboard I usually catch it in my hand, as it was swinging towards me I suddenly realised what it was and pulled my hand away lucky it wasn't dark.
