What a night !!

After numerous trips of donuts fishing for gummies it was time to try get another mulloway.. In the past few months I haven't put to much time into them due to work etc..

Friday night me and my brother pull up to Patterson river to see a glassed out bay and nice warm breeze.. As we reach the waters edge mullet were going crazy and jumping everywhere - good signs !! After half an hour of nothing I put out a new bait and on the drop I felt weight and struck and I'm on.. after a few solid runs I got it to the surface and saw the majestic silver lit spots (never gets old).. Into the net a 72cm mulloway

Next bait out and once again on the drop I was on.. my brother standing there in amazement as we see another silver ghost surface after a brief fight.. Another 75cm mulloway released to hassle another fortunate angler.. 20 minutes later I hear my stradic start screaming and before I could get to it my brother grabbed it and lost it a few seconds later.. if he had just left it for 15 seconds we would've seen number 3.. Always next time :-D

Being on such a high from the night before and my brother wanting revenge we went back for more.. It was very humid but flat as a tack again and after an hour of fishing for no action what so ever my stradic starts bending and screaming.. This one had quite a bit more weight than the others and after 2 big runs into the net came a well conditioned 83cm jewie.. Unfortunately due to gill hooking this one had to come home for dinner which was just beautiful.. never like taking them home as they are an elusive species that every angler should experience once in their lives just like Murray cod.. Barramundi etc..

Fantastic report! I think I may have been out the same night (on the Yarra) - no action up this end as yet, but there were also lots of bait fish about, so the signs are good for them appearing some time in the next month. Does anyone have any theories about whether mulloway move up the bay on an annual migration like the snapper? If so, it would make sense that they hit the Patterson first and the Yarra / Maribyrnong and Werribee later.
