Bait mate is a white elastic on a roll. You peel it of and wrapped it around the bait. With fleshy baits they can fall off/easy for pickers to snatch. Keeps the bait on long enough for the fish to take.

Hi Bear, like Raul said the pinkys are starting to turn up at Brighton in choppy conditions. Have been getting some lately on pilchard slices and calamari strips around sunset...

Thanks.
We went down to the Brighton Breakwall Satyrday morning, got a but lost so got there a bit layer than we wanted - round 6.30am.
Got onto a pinky within the first 10min, but only 23cm.
That was the only fish. There was a couple of guys next to us who had been there for a while, they got around 5 pinkies, but only one after we got there.
Thinking the earlier the better and on the incoming tide.
Still had fun and was great to wet the line again.
Thinking of trying for done whiting down at williamstiwn next weekend - see how it goes

went to Sandy b/wall last night..7.30-11.00pm
first cast...banjo LOL
Started getting bites after dark..LAnded 3 pinkies, 2 undersized 1 at 30cm. Missed a nice run which started to peal some line off my spool and stopped as I grabbed the rod.
Consistent bites throughout the session...would have liked to stay longer, but had plans for early this morning.

I don't "bend backwards" to get the bait out as far as I can... Ends up 40-50ish m out or so most of the times. I use 10'6" rods one light one heavier.
