Mission Hunting Reds ( Failed ) 21/10/2011

Post by vinhii » Fri Oct 21, 2011 11:14 am

So as some of you guys know that i been trying to chase Some Reds all month LOL! :lolf:

So heres my report..
Location:- mordialloc/williamstown
Duration:- 10 hrs LOL i must be doing something wrong... ( had breaks though )
Took the day off work to go with my mates .. woke up bright and early around 6am was excited cause my mates usually dont come fishing with me unless the weather is nice so was pretty anxious to get out there and hava fish!

Headed out .. but because of traffic conditions we didnt get to wet a line till 10.30am
I also passed Fishing Fever to pick up some bait ( where brett has recommended me to call up about Game fishing , Which i totally forgot to ask them about )
Friendly guys great place felt like heaven in there LOL just wanted to buy everything inside but resisted so lucky i left my wallet in the car hehe.

Got to Mordialloc and saw plenty of people aiming for Garfish but none were throwing lines out.. so it was basically only me who was trying to aim for reds or anything else..

My other mates were trying for some squid and gar but with no success because they were more there to enjoy the day lol..
45mins in i went to check my rod and i felt a slight tugging.. but then all sudden dead weight.. at that point i was alil confused and thought *Damnn caught some seaweed* as it got closer to the surface i was pretty sure i hook some seaweed that was just drifting by.. and it KICKED! i then realised! FISH ON! Caught a nice 35-40cm Flathead lol :lolf: :lolf: :reel:

At this point i felt real happy cause i finally landed a bloody fish! but still felt bit annoyed it wasnt a RED! Bangg
So as i brought it up the older gentlemen next to me was saying "oh thats my fish!.. i forgot it down there" haha best laugh with these older gentlemen! Always the best to talk to and have a laugh with

The day went on and started heating up and my fat bastard mate passed out on the pier and fell asleep!!! :sleepy1: Lol at that point i noticed my rod tugging ever so lightly.. i kept watching it for another minute or so cause the wind was really strong then to my keen eye i saw a snap! Bam!! i was on it in a blink of a eye!! :r Drag was screaming i thought *YES! i finally hooked into a RED!!*
People were watching as i had this fight with the Unknown fish that was at the end of my line.. i tightened the drag alil.. And as it surfaced i saw it was a Bright white colour and not PINK! :wall: :wall: Damit what could it be?!
Turns out i caught a 40cm Salmon LOL!! :lolf: :lolf: :fishhead: Bloody hell hahaha it was amazing cause the fight was just incredible lol ..

After a long day in the sun and getting sunburnt we called it quits and headed back home to grab some dinner..

Second report - Williamstown

After dinner me and my other mate who is keen to learn more about fishing , Went to willy beach.. to try aim for the snapper because the Southerly Wind change and rain came.. But because it was so packed .. we couldnt get a spot and tried in a diff location :?

After 1hr 30mins in i had a big tug at my line but no takers.. was getting me bit fustrated! then we thought we go back to the first location and finally someone left .. Got there and we had a chit chat to the guys that were already there and he said he just landed a massive snapper!

After hearing this news i got very keen and set up straight away and was on it like no tomorrow lol
wasnt even 30mins in the other guys that were there packed up and left...then all the sudden the heavens changed! South winds kicked in and rain started coming.. :wall:
I didnt have my wet weather gear so i braved it out with just the clothes on my back .. i wasnt going to let this stop me!
my mate threw in a line but snagged it and snapped the line =/ i quickly rig it up again but SNAGGED AGAIN! so packed that one up and gave up..

We sat in the rain hoping for a something to take it.. but nothing.. we started to get soaked with rain.. we finally called it..   :surrender:

All in all.. i had a great day! rather than working! lol love it cause i was with my mates.. and i guess in the end of the day i still caught fish! finally! hehehe so im pretty happy about that

I might take another day off and call in a sickie to go chase some reds with my mate next week :lolf: :lolf:

Goodluck guys! Happy fishing! :D

Great report "vinhi" you certainly are learning that it aint easy catching a landbased Snapper & enjoying the time spent regardless , many guys like yourself fish for many years & learn each time something new & one day it all comes together & you catch your dream land based Snapper .
Glad to see you put in the hard yard's & it takes years of exprience doing exactly what your doing before it all comes together , keep it up . :)

looks like the water in Mordi finally cleared up. Anyone catching salmon on SP? Any ink on the pier?

Nice work Vinhii. I think that was my fish...I left it to grow some more.

Next time, tie a line on your mate's rod while is is sleeping. Give it a tug while he is dreaming and watch his reaction. :roflmao:

i forgot to mention in my report as soon as i caught the salmon i rigged up a line for my mate to try spin for some.. he had some bites but didnt hook it up.. on a closer inspection on my lure the paint was chipped off so def afew down there giving it a bite lol.

Next time we`ll just throw him in the water hahaha
