Fishing report and 10kilo+ fish.
Fishing report and 10kilo+ fish.
I have 3 days off, so today I was itching to go for a fish from yesterdays successful snapper catch.
It was Raining so bad, a lot of heavy rain consistLY. Then at 10:30pm I decided its time to go.
I got to my destination at 11:20.
Conditions so bad, could not see 5metres infront of me. Pissing down rain for the whole time I was there till I left, heavy rain and mild.
I asked my self what the $$$ am I doing here. Only person to be seen was me.
12Am passed ,1am, 2am...3am.... 3.20.. then
Landed a small banjo.
This gave me hope, as once in the past I caught a banjo then a big snapper straight after it.
So I decided to rebait all my 3 rods ONE more time.
10mins later, MY ROD Screamed, pulling for 25secounds straight.
I was about to embrace on the biggest fight of my fishing career.
To top it off, it was pissing down rain and both my other 2 rods all screamed.
Here I am for 6hours in rain not 1 fish, then 3 at the same time.
I decided to let the other 2 rods play each other with the bait runner, while I fight this monster.
I Truly thought it was a snapper, SO heavy and powerful. Massive runs, just like a snapper does.
With headshakes, Then after a 10min battle I realised This fish was no snapper, I Had foul hooked a banjo on the tail.
This baby was Bloody MASSIVE.
I DECIDED TO LEAVE THE OTHER 2 rods, and grab my net and walk 50metres away to climb to a safer rocky edge to land this.
Pissing down rain, slippery rocks I realised this banjo is not going to fit in my net.
I had to lay down on rocks, and reach as far as I could.
I GRABED HIS TAIL, then realised this banjo IS $)) heavy.
I could not lift him up the rocks, slippery surface.
Back acking, and banjo making weird farting noises. I pushed on back up the rocks, slowly step by step.
I left the banjo there and sprinted to my other 2 rods.
First rod was a mulloway, at 65cm. I had to walk back to the rocky edge 60 metres away and down again to net him.
I Sprinted back 60 metres to my other rod, where this time I had a snapper 3kgish.
Which I lost as I was pulling him 60metres to the landing location.
By the end of this, I was breathless sore and it was now 4am.
Fish was biting non stop but I was buggered and sore, and I ran out of pilchards.
IM AROUND 180cm

Well done persisting, subzero, it paid off! Funny how fishing can be totally quiet for ages then bang it's full on.
Ps treat banjos like shark, bleed, chill, freeze to get rid of ammonia in the blood.

Try it you may be pleasantly surprised. Only big ones are worth keeping. Had 2 go's at it
First time, bled (late) didn't freeze. Tasted like a sponge soaked in pi$$. Into the bin it goes.
Second time, read that they're ok, and was catching heaps so thought why not. Bled (slit thoat n tail), kept chilled until filleted then freeze 2 weeks+. Even the kids liked it.
Otherwise, don't bleed it, and give it to your mother in law. ;D haha

Wow... You're one hard core fisherman to have gone out last night. Thanks for a great report and it's fitting that you were rewarded for your efforts :cold:
