G'day fishing blokes!
Me and the missus were fishing Corinella pier tonight 21-1-17 and caught this fish and a bloke on the pier, told me it was a scorpion fish but I was unsure, but I have never seen one before?
Cheers, DylMiest.

commonly called a cobbler. Nasty sting from the spines.
Pain is similar to the scorpion fish commonly called a Bulleye Gurnard
I know from many personal experiences as a commercial fisher.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Scorpion fish are blotchy red with bulgy eyes, can be bigger and have a distinct aggro look about them

I'd call it for the soldier rather than the fortescue, 2 different fish hard to tell apart, yet sting the same.
We used to just call them Cobblers way back when I was on the boat.
