Gummy Fishing (lang Lang /Jam jerrupland based...Advice for line etc..

Post by jasew3 » Fri Jul 21, 2017 4:45 pm

Gday All
I have finally bought myself a half decent rod and reel (Beastmaster 6-10 pound rod with a 6000D Baitrunner to try my luck land base fishing around Lang Lang or at Jam Jerrup. Would appreciate some advice to what is the preferred line to use and also if I need a heavy leader plus what r the best hook size to use? Also not sure if there is any bycatch around the area which wood be suited to the rod setup.
Any tips or ideas would be appreciated..
cheers Jase :a_goodjob: :water:

Can't help you much with land based down there. I only chase gummies offshore. I use 20-30lb braid and 60lb leader. Can use lighter but chances offshore of something bigger coming along I light to go a bit heavier. I use 6/0 hooks. My favourite hook is a mutsu circle. But anything circle is the go imo. Good luck mate!

20-30lb braid with about a meter at least of leader 30-50lb. Gummies roll up line and their skin is abraisive on the braid. Hooks 7/0-9/0 circles/suicide. Common set up is to use ezi rig sliders. Due to rolling of gummies single hooks are safer than two hook paternosters. Banjo, rays and small school sharks abound. Snapper are probably unlikely LB, out in the channels you can reduce hook size if hoping for snapper bycatch. elephants are common late summer/autumn. Not now though. You wont stop a big ray, just have to bust it off before it spools you.

LL & JJ beaches over high tide, stockyard point over low.
