Ive got 2 young kids and a mrs who wont eat fish with bones. So i usually fillet them and either batter and deep fry them.
Or i put some garlic butter on them and put them on the bbq.

I also dont mind taking the head skin and gut out. Then cooking them whole with a little bit of chilli or peri peri. Very nice as the meat is firm and goes well with the strong flavours.

Easy to catch, easy to clean and beautiful to eat

each to there own I suppose. il take your share of leatheries, no problems. Believe it or not I have caught couta consistently for about 15 years and never encountered worms. this trip 2 out 0f the 5 couta had worms.
I cooked them up about 3.30 today and as of so far I haven't been crook. il let you know in the morning if things change, so far so good.

tasted bloody brilliant

Nice looking feed crumpet, mind if I ask how you caught the couta, do you troll for them or are they just in the mix when you bait fish ?

Just a bycatch mate. I cought 2 of them on squid strips and 2 on half.pillies (headandbody).

Ive had huge couta ..(1.2 mt) caught on live bay trout. Sadly my photos are with my phone somewhere off cowes pier...

Seen big 1s down at buoy 5 and 6 while fishen for pinkies. They follow pillies up but wont strike. Also wont take a metal slug after ive thrown it at them.

They look scary as buggery at the back of the boat though

I never have and never will eat couta because of the worms. Such a turn off, even if it doesn't have worms.

Same goes with the trevally parasite

Great catch though mate. That would be awesome bait for me lol

You don't know what you are missing couta is a great eating fish, as for trevali the parasite only attaches to its tongue as a cooked fish I dont think its that good but as sushi it great
