Corinella land based tips

Hi guys,

I'll be camping over there with a few mates for about a week, so trying to get onto some fish. Only thing is I can't bring bait, so it'll be land based lures only. Ive looked far and wide for advice on lures, but all of its about bait. If anyone can help that would be great,

The pier is the only spot worth fishing with lures landbased, everywhere else nearby is shallow and reefy or mud flats. Maybe small plastics around the pylons for trevally and salmon would work , but lures wouldn’t be my first choice for that area due to the typically murky water and sea grass floating around.

If your willing to drive it's worth heading to one of the island piers for squid.

Will there be any flatties in the mud flats?

I've fished around there a fair bit on the kayak and never done too well on the flatties. A couple of just legal ones, but that's about it. You might pick a few up flicking plastics around the beach at Coronet bay or Reef Island if you don't mind a little drive.

From memory that drops down into a shallow water with a rubbly, weedy bottom. I've been over it in the kayak ages ago and it didn't look all that inviting. There might be fish there but it's shallow so they're probably more active at night. Can you cast lures off it? Yes. Are you likely to lose heaps of lures in the reef? Also yes.

Are you sure you can't take bait? You're a decent shot at a gummy off the pier or the beaches along that north side of the point, and there's whiting at Coronet Bay and Reef Island. If you're hellbent on lure fishing maybe look at somewhere further afield.

Looks like I'm gonna have to go for coronet bay then, is the current still wp level strong there? Also, how should I fish it gear wise? Like jighead weight, line /rod class, ect

I might be able to bring bait, but only a little, as we trying to fit everything in 2 cars, so I can't bring a cooler full of pllies or whatever. What bait should I bring for the whiting ? Don't think I'm gonna go for gummies as the heaviest set up I have is like 6-8kg, 15lb braid, unless this is alright for gummies?

There's stuff all tide flow down there. Have a look at the Navionics web app, most of the current follows the channel west towards Cowes and the rest of that area has light currents.

I don't really fish landbased with plastics, purple will know more about that. I use an egi rod if that helps. You might get whiting on little prawn or creature plastics.

Prawn is a great bait for whiting around there, there's also heaps of nippers around if you feel like collecting your own bait.

6-8kg is fine for the size gummies you'd get around there, I assume this is a surf rod you're talking about. 15lb is a bit lighter than what I'd use but doable, just use a long leader of 50lb and be prepared to break off if you hook some of WPB's lovely bycatch.
