I don't get it - 11 family members... Surely if someone ate something and started being violently ill seconds after they took a bite, you would avoid the same fate!

I really don't know how someone can look at a puffer fish and think "jeez that looks delicious!". They look like that for that exact reason, basically wear a sign saying Don't Eat Me!

If someone else prepared and cooked the fish, how would you know if it was safe to eat.

I remember when I was kid, that a immigrant family caught and ate toadies, and if I recall correctly they died.

Isn't the puffer a delicacy in Japan because of it's paralysing powers. Only a select few registered chefs are allowed to cook them with some or most of the poison removed.
