Morwong. But I have to ask. WHY, spear them if you have no idea what they are.

Average eating, not regarded highly.

Also same opinion on spearing unidentified fish, seen 1 protected species in my life, super rare encounter and diving in Perth.

Missed so many fish because i always try to I.D them first to make sure they are legal size for this reason I.Ding is important, Protected species reason is a joke there are 2 fish species protected in VIC.
1.Blue Grouper (never seen probably will never see one, very easily Identified)
2.Great White Shark(obviously can't mistake shooting this one).
Does anybody even do research before they quickly type what not to do?

Re spearing unidentified fish, things look a lot different a couple meteres down/dirty water/running out of breath.
I usually call it a butterfish, but butterfish is a broad name applied to many fish and does not appear in the Vic rec fishing guide.
This post was to settle a bet with a mate.
Like most people on here I am aware of the protected species in vic waters, thanks for the responses tho guys
