Fished around the Hastings tyabb area last night in the channel near buoy 29 caught a stack of these little guys..

Though perhaps a baby bronzie but I wouldn't know as I've never seen one.. Carpet shark maybe? Lol cheers in advance

It's a cat shark, but I can't tell you the exact species. The cat shark family (Scyliorhinidae) has 149 species in it and a lot look very similar, but if I had to take a guess I'd say it's a gulf cat shark (Asymbolus vincenti)

Not big at all, they max out at around 50cm. That one you're holding would probably be a mature adult. I kept one as a pet for a while in a temperate marine tank, cool little sharks

Heaps of them around in WP, very common from the beaches also, especially Merricks.
Closest pic I have found is also the gulf cat shark. Have had others say it is a southern catshark.

Oh wow I thought it was a pup. We also got a leopard shark a little bigger but about 5 of these guys.. Razor sharp rows of teeth!!
