What are these two fish - from Lakes Entrance offshore

What kind of reef fish these are? ....and are they edible?

(the two pics are two entirely different fish)

They were both caught offshore from Lakes Entrance

Wrasse , i have eaten the bottom one about 25 years ago nothing to right home about but better than salmon

it also means your on the reef so you were how far our 4 or 6 mile ?

Cheers Trev... I had a feeling that the top one was a kind of wrasse but had no idea what the bottom one was.

Hey, thanks for the fast response! and yes to both - I looked them up on the net, and you're right. A southern Maori wrasse, caught off 6 mile reef, and the barber perch caught around the 'stockyard area', except we mostly caught flathead at that spot with the occasional barber perch. Will have to try cooking and tasting the barber perch thanks!!

Yes, the wrasse was off 6 mile reef!

I'm led to believe the tip fish is called a sergeant baker.. Caught heaps last few years around Eden drifting bait over the reefs. They fight pretty well for little tackers
If I'm not fishing, I'd rather be fishing!
