worms should be the least of your worry as they will be cooked. :roflmao: Watch out for the needle like bones......millions of them! :whoh:

So is this a barracuda??

it was smooth silver in appearance, but no markings of a barracuda ,.. just want someone elses opinion lol

Sorta.

This is a Southern Barracouta, not a 'Barracuda' which is normally caught in northern waters.
The SB usually grows to around 1+ meter & whilst they can be aggressive, they generally aren't a patch on the nothern 'cuda' which have been known to kill people.
The nthrn 'cuda' can grown in excess of 2+ meters & upwards of 80kg.
Ours are generally under the metre & around 2-5kg. Offshore you'll get larger examples around the 1metre+ mark & up to around 10kg+ or so, but that's about it for ours.

Both are generally hated by game anglers as they are prolific takers of lures, both metals & skirts.
It's an absolute bastard trolling for tuna with 1/2 a dozen $30-$60 (or more) skirts out the back & hitting a school of em & loosing $$$ of skirts.
However, if ya target em with wire traces & metal slices they can give ya a hellova lot of fun.
Pretty otrdinary eaters though.
The smaller ones aren't too bad but the larger examples can be full of worms.
Make good bait though.

great fun to catch on light gear!

the smaller couta (say under 60cm) aren't too bad to eat if they are filleted and cooked within a few hours...

caught a few in NSW this week and a bit of egg and breadcrumbs and the fillets were surprisingly good...
