Well I'm pretty angry I didn't take a photo but I'll try explain it so hopefully someone can work out what it is.

Redish in colour and quite muscly. Big eyes and mouth.

Thats about all I can remember.

Was caught in 8m of water of at Portharlington.

No not like that.

It had the body shape of a flathead, flat on the bottom.

Maybe something that fell out of the bildge of a big chineese tanker/cargo ship :super: ..lol

I'm sure someone on here will work out what it was , cheers.

Ah yes probably , now you mention it , that is about the only other red fish with big eyes and mouth with a flat belly like a flathead in ppb I can think of too , 'now you mention it !'. They also have large side dorsal fins , they look like wings. I hope that's it , because it has had my brain racking since the question was asked , curious to know what it was too, cheers , Rick.

They are similar to flathead to eat.Flesh is a bit chunkier. Very large numbers of them in central Bass Straight all depths to 200mtrs. I caught a small one in the gippsland Lakes last week.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.
