Vacuum sealer
I hear a lot of people talk about vacuum sealing their fish and thought that might be a good thing to do to keep my fillets in top shape for eating. Who owns one and what brand/model should I be looking at?

Re: Vacuum sealer
I've seen people make do with a zip lock bag held in a sink full of water. The water presses the air out and then you seal it up. Obviously you try not to get any water in the bag while doing this.
Probably not as thorough as a proper vacuum sealer but it seems worthwhile mentioning in case anyone reading doesn't have the spare cash lying around (or would prefer to spend it on more fishing tackle instead).

Re: Vacuum sealer
kogan has a decent vacuum sealer but I suggest making sure the fish is patted dry before using the vac function.
When I got time,
I wet a line cos Im a junkie,
been fishin since a kid,
I like it cos it numbs me..

Re: Vacuum sealer
I reckon its one of the best things ever invented, vacuum sealer/chambers.
Coming from the hospitality industry, Its is a valuable tool, not only to keep things longer, but for cooking (sous vide) and can't change textures; i.e. fruit.
Anyhow i got 2, one is a Poly Science 300 chamber( commercial) and a cheap aldi brand which i usually take around with me if i go fishing. If you're only going to use it to store food(no wet marinade) then a cheap eBay one will do.

Re: Vacuum sealer
I went down the cheap ebay road with the smooth bags it was crap, bought a sunbeam with the crinkle looking bags it is good I use it to vac seal salmon fillets, slimies, silver whiting etc gives me some bait to work with till I catch fresh.

I have one the same as this. Had it for around 4 years and still use the original bags it came with. Bought ours from the Wild Deer Expo. Works a treat.

Re: Vacuum sealer
I'd go sunbeam. Had two cheapo's from kmart, first one wouldn't release, second just won't do the job, and it's only about 7 or 8 months old. My mate uses a sunbeam, no issues at all.

Re: Vacuum sealer
Have one purchased from Diamond Marketing. Can recommend. Easy to use, bags reusable.
