Using Tea in Smoker

Dropped onto a school of Slimey Mackerel yesterday, heaps of fun on light Whiting gear, they hit like a train.
Intend to smoke a couple tomorrow. Have smoked Trout before and generally rub the fish with salt and brown sugar and marinate overnight in a fortified wine, rum or whisky.
Have read of using Tea for a different flavour and wondering if anyone has used it mixed with the wood of choice.
Any direction would be appreciated.
Thanks
Blue

Thinking of last time I tried slimy’s I think smoking them would definitely improve them. Not really experienced with smoking fish myself so not sure how the tea would go, but I don’t see why not.
Where did you catch them?
