Anyone here into eating carp?

Post by chopzor » Tue Feb 12, 2013 3:23 pm

Well, caught a few huge carp the other day and killed them and left them on the bank...

Went to my grandmothers afterwards and almost got myself a slap :P

Went back yesterday night and caught a few and took them back to her.

She then went of the make a fish stew...that I quite enjoyed.

Any one else fancy the carp?

Hi chopzor,

I saw some people catching them out of the Mooroolbark creek one day years ago. Bloomin whoppers.

They told me that they take them home alive and let them swim around in clean water in the bath for a few days before cooking to get the muddy taste out of them.

:fish22: :fish22: :fish22:

Did yours have a muddy taste???

rememeber spf chick that transporting carp live is illegal. They actually taste really nice, not very fishy and have a clean flesh if washed right. In the U.K you can transport carp live and that is what they do, put them in a bucket with clean water for a week.

Didn't taste muddy at all.

The flesh infused beautifully with the tomato and tasted great!

thanks master pro, good reminder for all.

my preference is to dispatch quickly & bin. I really can't come at leaving dead carp on the bank either. I don't think it's a pleasant environment for the next fishos to that spot.

cheers Amanda

I 'dispatch' them quickly then put them back in the water and I can guarantee that the fish will die. If I get one with eggs, it is killed and then I leave it on the bank for a while before returning it to the water. I doubt it would have any chance of ditching its eggs anyway. I'm not sure what the water is like where you fishing people catch your carp but if there is cod, crays. yabbies etc. in the waters where you fish, they will clean the dead carp up quickly. There are no bins where I fish as well!
thanks

To put it into perspective, far more people eat Balugar caviar in the UK than carp. Anyone got a caviar recipe? However, I have heard of that cleaning method used and can see the logic; whether it works or not is another matter. However, unless you're planning to lug a bath to the lakeside and sit there for 24 hours continually changing the water, I'd suggest finding the recipe for the stew ;-)
There is no such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer.
